When do horses need dental care?
Different ideas exist about the frequency of dental care for horses:
- Several top riders have their horse checked by a horse dentist every 6 months.
- In the United Kingdom they even examin young horses every 3 months (in the years their teeth are changing).
- A lot of game riders, recreation riders and drivers have checked their horse annually.
A must is to check up your horse’s teeth before you get it into the habit of saddling up. This way you can avoid that your horse suffers from hooks in its mouth; which can cause a disobedient behaviour. A lot of people are not yet aware of this!
As for people it is very useful and pleasant for your horse that its teeth are checked each year and if necessary looked after.
